Failure Isn’t Falling Down, It’s Staying Down

KUNG FU

Our BCCMA approved and BMABA Nationally accredited syllabus covers line work techniques that include a variety of hand strikes, kicks and sweeps, self defence techniques, open hand forms, weapons, sparring and conditioning.

Sanshou

Sanshou or Sanda (which translates as Freehand or Free fighting), is the art of Chinese Kickboxing. An effective and devastating stand up style used by Chinese Police and Military, it utilises hand and elbow strikes, kicks and knee strikes as well as grappling, takedowns and sweeps making it an ideal companion to MMA training. This style also utilises a syllabus approved and accredited by the BCCMA and the BMABA

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BJJ is a highly popular and practical Brazilian self defence system that specialises in ground fighting, it is designed to be effective on opponents up to 50lbs heavier. A relatively new martial art in comparison to more traditional Asian arts.

Jian Shou Chuan (Splashing Hands Kung Fu)

Jian Shou Chuan translates to English as Splashing Hands Fist, its name derives from the fact that when training in this system, the hands are often open and move with such speed it is as though you were shaking water from them. It is possibly one of the last great secrets of Chinese Martial arts to be revealed to the general public. Thought to be developed in the late 1700’s for the temple monks, whose duty was to guard the gates at the Northern Shaolin temple, in China, and then spread later to southern China.

PERFECTION IS ACHIEVED NOT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO ADD, BUT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY.

PHOENIX FREESTYLE MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL held its first class in February of 2013. We offer a range of martial arts disciplines, including Kung Fu, covering practical self-defence, forms, tai chi and weapons training. Sanshou (Chinese Kickboxing) a devastating and effective stand up discipline that includes knee and elbow strikes as well as grappling, takedowns and sweeps. And to cover the ground fighting area there are Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. New members are always welcome.

The best thing to do is to find a class that suits you from those listed on the timetable and simply come along. Just wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing. To start with there is no need for any special equipment and no need to sign up to anything. First session is free, and all new members are covered under a 28 day insurance so there is no need to join up straight away. We would rather you gave it a try for a couple of weeks. There are monthly package options from twice a week training up to unlimited training and 121 sessions. Alternatively you can always Pay As You Go. Regular gradings are held for Kung Fu and Sanshou as well promotions in BJJ awarded by Black belt Professor Paul Harper. We also compete regularly in all disciplines both in the UK and internationally as part of the GB team.

It's never too late to learn.
